Hi everyone. Happy Holidays from Peru. I hope everyone had a nice Christmas, if you celebrate Christmas, and I hope you have a happy New Year! I am in Chanchamayo (Selva Central Region of Peru) visiting with Rudi's family. We went swimming yesterday, drank hot chocolate, and ate Panetone. We had dinner at 11pm and ate a bit of Paca, a large rodent from the jungle. I will have to continue typing later because this computer has a lag time of approximately five minutes after you type each letter!
Love and miss everyone.
Nos vemos pronto,
Jen

Madre de Dios
Hey folks.....that's where I am headed. Rio Madre de Dios. That photo was taken in July during the dry season (app. May-October) and there will be quite a bit more water when I arrive in January at the peak of the wet season (November-April). Note the large amount of beach along the edge of the river--good animal viewing terrain in the dry season.

Let the blogging begin!
Hi everyone. I am leaving for Peru in a few days and wanted to point you in the direction of my blog website. For the past month, various people have been asking me what I will do in Peru (the non-biologists have been especially interested and confused when I mentioned that part of my time will be spent collecting bugs). Someone on my swim team (Temescal Masters!) suggested creating a jungle blog as an easy way to communicate. I shrugged off the idea at first but after some deep consideration decided that I would try it out in this great age of technology. I am doing a bunch of different things in Peru and I probably owe you an explanation. Writing in a blog will allow me to document stories and share with others while away in Peru. My blogs will also serve as a great substitute for the classic "mass email" which most people end up trashing before reading.
For those who are interested, I invite you to read my stories and correspond. I have no idea how frequent my writings will appear and please don't expect anything. Just check out the site once in a while.
I hope everyone has a wonderful holiday and I will miss you all.
Abrazos,
Jen
